Five junior teams from under-7 to under-14, more than 150 registered colts and over 20 qualified coaches. A proper pathway from a first session to senior cricket.

A massive part of the club

The junior section at Capel Cricket Club is something we're really proud of. We've built a strong pathway for young players to come in, learn the game properly, and enjoy their cricket in a supportive environment.

We currently run five junior teams — Under 7s, Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 14s — giving young players the chance to develop at every stage. From first introductions to cricket through to competitive junior matches, the focus is always on fun, improvement and confidence.

One of the biggest positives is seeing juniors progress into senior cricket. A large number of our current senior players — including those now winning leagues and competing strongly across multiple competitions — came through the Capel youth system. That pathway from junior cricket into successful senior teams is something the club takes real pride in.

We're always encouraging new youngsters to come along and get involved. Whether they're completely new to cricket or have played before, everyone is welcome. If you're interested, get in touch with the coach for the right age group and come down to a session — the more the merrier.

Junior cricket

Capel 6-a-Side Tournament

Capel once again played host to the annual Capel 6-a-Side Tournament on Sunday 14 June. This year's event was contested at Under-9 level and drew a strong twelve-team entry from clubs across the area.

The day ran as two groups of six, with the top two from each group going through to the semi-finals and the group winners meeting in the final. Matches were six overs of five balls a side — every player bowling an over, batting in pairs two overs at a time, no toss, with the first-named side batting first. Scores started at 100, wickets cost four runs and wides or no-balls added two; knockout ties were settled by a bowl-off.

It proved a tough day on home turf for our Under 9s, who couldn't quite find their form in the group stage. Credit to Pyrford CC, who took the tournament with victory in the final.

Thanks as ever to everyone who helped run the day — the umpires, scorers and tea team — and to all the visiting clubs for making it such a well-contested festival of junior cricket.
