Captains Words

Capel’s Sunday side play in division 1 of the Village Cricket League. We have maintained our position in division 1 with great thanks to everyone that played. We finished the season with some amazing individual statistics. Dom Venn finishes the season with the second-highest number of runs in the league. He was just 49 runs off of claiming the top spot and had a season-high of 144, which did make the decision for our batting award very easy. We always try to ensure we’re developing our youth players as well, with some of our under 16’s and below playing on a regular basis and one of which, Ben Sanders, ended 6th in the league’s best fielders and again making the fielders award a very easy choice. Unfortunately, the bowling award was not as easy, but fortunately, this was down due to us having two of our bowlers in the top 10 in the league for wickets. Ketan Patel and Oli Margetts were always very dependable throughout the season, boasting some very impressive figures, but in the end, Ketan managed to pick up the bowling award with the 4th most wickets in the league. Finally my captain’s award. We try to not limit this to just players as there are many people within the club that help out every bit as much as a batsman getting 100 or bowler getting a 5 wicket haul. This year I gave it to our previous captain, Henry Lee, as he has helped out a great deal, even when not playing. Overall we had a very enjoyable season, playing a lot of youth players gaining good experience in a very competitive league, and hopefully going to use it to be even stronger next season.
