Welcome to Capel Cricket Club
Village cricket at the Recreation Ground, Mortimer Road — playing since the 1870s and in league cricket since 1995. New members, players and spectators always welcome.
About Us
A hundred years on the Recreation Ground
Cricket has been played in Capel since the 1870s, first out at Misbrooks Green. The Mortimer family gave the Recreation Ground to the village in 1922, and the club moved to Mortimer Road in early 1926 — where it has stayed ever since.
Capel joined the Surrey Downs League in 1995 and has won its top division four times since. The junior section, rebuilt from 2001, now has more than 150 registered colts and over 20 qualified coaches, with players going on to Surrey and Sussex age-group cricket.

Capel's New Development
New Nets
After another successful season, in September 2022 we dismantled our old nets, which had started to become dangerous and something of an eyesore for the community.
In February 2023 Total Play Ltd installed a three-lane solution on an abandoned bowls green — an ideal spot, tucked away and already flat. Please read the rules before using the new nets.

Around the club
The new nets from the air, a Saturday tea laid out in the pavilion, and the cricket-ball cupcakes that turn up more often than you would think.
Teas
The best on the circuit — and consistent for over 30 years.
Visiting sides always say our teas are the best. Both teams, umpires and scorers are served, and there is usually plenty left over for spectators too. Helen Margetts coordinates the teas with a team of around nine other ladies who take their turns — and the standard never drops.
30+ years, no drop in standard
