Summary of the 2025 Season:
Well… what a year.
The 1st XI finished top of Division 7 East in the Surrey Cricket Championship and secured promotion to Division 6. It’s a great achievement for the group and fully deserved after a season of consistent performances and proper team effort.
Across the season we scored 4,539 runs and took 158 wickets, which tells its own story; we weren’t reliant on one or two individuals, it was a proper squad contribution.
Batting Highlights
There wasn’t one standout dominating the charts — instead we had contributions right through the order.
Harry Bradley finished as leading run scorer with 400 runs and three fifties, giving us some solid foundations at the top.
Jonty Margetts added 383 runs and Harry Margetts chipped in with 373 in what was a strong all-round season from the skipper.
Ashley Smith (312 runs) and Oliver Margetts (295 runs) also played key roles in making sure we kept putting competitive totals on the board.
We registered eight half-centuries across the season, and more importantly, plenty of important 30s and 40s in tight games that don’t always grab headlines but win leagues.
Bowling Highlights
The bowling unit was where we really applied pressure.
Jonty Margetts led the way with 29 wickets, while Ashley Smith picked up 28 — including a brilliant 7/21 which was one of the performances of the season.
Captain Harry Margetts added 21 wickets, backing up his runs with the ball.
Support came from Rudy Jaques (20 wickets) and Fraser Brearley (19 wickets, including a fifer), giving us depth and options throughout the year.
Just as important as the wickets was the control — economy rates stayed tight which meant we were always in games and often dictating them.
The Bigger Picture
This wasn’t about individuals chasing numbers. It was about turning up every week, doing the basics well, and backing each other.
We fielded well, we stuck at it in tough spells, and we found ways to win games when it mattered.
Credit to Harry for leading the side well all season, and to everyone who made themselves available and contributed along the way.
Promotion to Division 6 is a great step forward for the club. We know it’ll be tougher next year, but this group has earned the right to test itself at that level.
A proper team effort.
On to Division 6. 🏏
